The Maritime and Coastguard Agency

Accident Prevention Vision

By working productively with our staff, partners and our customers, to reduce the frequency of incidents and the severity of accidents that occur within the United Kingdom’s Search and Rescue Region.

Staff at MRSC Shetland are fully committed to this important initiative and have, in support of this, produced and recorded the following Accident Prevention Announcements.

By Broadcasting these announcements, we hope to alert our customers to some of the possibly dangers and how they can be avoided.  However, should an accident occur, how to get the most appropriate and effective assistance.

The Sea can be a fun place, and we wish you all to enjoy it.  However, it can be unforgiving to those not properly prepared for it.  Emergencies can arise seemingly out of nowhere and the results devastating. . .  be prepared !

Does your boat have an Anchor - If not, then we suggest you get one, it is absolutely essential that you carry one onboard. One heavy anchor holds better than two smaller, lighter anchors. Larger boats may also need a Kedge anchor as well.
